Robert Pearlman | Forwarded by someone@jsc.nasa.gov: Ever wanted to have lunch with Neil Armstrong? Buzz Aldrin? Sally Ride? Well, now you can -- kind of. The historical NASA logo trays from the cafés (that have been here longer than most of you) are now for sale at the Starport Gift Shops. Spiffy new trays will be arriving soon. Allow these pieces of space history to comfortably retire in the luxury of your home. Check out the backs of the trays, because they are even dated! Who knows what great space giant has eaten off your tray. |
TRS | I love it! Is there a kind soul in the US who was intending to drop in a collect some of these and would be willing to add a pack for me? Not sure how I could return the favour but would certainly pay for the items and postage. |
spaceheaded | It gave me a chuckle that Robert posted this under "Hardware and Flown Items" Appropriate, I would say. |
mdmyer | Does not look like it is on a webpage. I guess you have to be there to purchase one? |
Robert Pearlman | Based on the e-mails I have received and the posts found here, we will offer a tray order service through buySPACE. Watch for details and an order link later tonight. |
mdmyer | Thanks Robert. I will purchase one. |
MrSpace86 | I ate off of one of those back in 2001 when I attended the Cosmosphere's space camp. One guy from my group bought one for $10 and brought back with him on the bus. So maybe one of you guys might get that tray I used, keep an eye for this up and coming space giant... |
John K. Rochester | Just bought one Robert... could you send me the one used by Rodrigo |
tegwilym | I just put in an order for a set of four of them for myself. These will be great for carrying milk and cookies out to my backyard observatory on clear nights. |
Robert Pearlman | Demand for the NASA trays has exceeded the pace that the trays can be retired from the NASA cafeterias. As such, they are still in use (astronauts may still be eating off them!) and will be shipped as soon as their replacements arrive. At this time, we do not have an estimated shipping date though we will update this page as information becomes known. |
snf13 | I just put in an order on the website - but notice arrival may be delayed. Do you know if there are any on-site I can go pick up in the exchange store? |
Robert Pearlman | Everyone - whether on-site at the exchange store or off - is being kept on a waiting list. We hear that trays may be available in about a week. |
nojnj | Thanks Robert for making these available! I received mine today. A great piece for my collection. If only they could talk... probably some great conversations during meals. |
mjanovec | Any update on the availability of these trays? Thanks... |
Robert Pearlman | The remaining trays are still in use at the JSC cafeterias. As soon as the new ones arrive and they release the old ones to those now on a waiting list (including us), we will start shipping. |
mjanovec | Thanks for the update! |
tegwilym | Anyone hear anything new about the trays? Mine haven't shown up yet, but I understand they got a lot of orders. |
Robert Pearlman | We just received word on Friday that the trays were beginning to be released. I am in London still, but when I return I will post an update regarding their shipping status. |
lunarrv15 | What appearance will the new trays have or did they change it? |
pokey | I'm wondering if the JSC cafeteria will start recalling the trays they sold. Last Thursday I was in the building 3 cafeteria and saw one of the new trays with a big chunk about the size of a pair of eyeglasses taken out of one of the corners. Oops! Not sure if that's typical wear on the new trays. The old ones could probably drive nails but I'm not going to try it. |
